One user who gave Braintree a positive review on G2 Crowd likes that it can accept different types of credit cards for payments and that its discount rates are competitive compared to Stripe and Square. He also appreciates its free virtual terminal, free gateway, and well-documented API.
What Braintree Does Not Do Well
Users who gave Braintree a negative review complained that during the registration process, they were asked far too many documents and unrelated questions. They also said that transactions with Braintree were too risky and some users got their account closed.
One user who gave Braintree a critical review on Trustpilot said that after he accepted his first transaction with his customers, he received an email from Braintree’s risk management team informing him that all of his funds will be frozen until further notice. He added that he was unable to access the money paid by their customers.
Braintree has two paid pricing options: Standard (2.9% + $0.30 per transaction), and Custom. The main differences between the plans include the volume, business model where the service will be used, as well as the availability of Interchange Plus pricing options.
For every chargeback, a flat fee of $15 will be collected by Braintree.
An additional 1% charge will be applied to transactions presented in any non-USD currency or if the customer’s card is issued outside of the United States.
For ACH direct debit, a 0.75% transaction fee will be applied, capped at $5 per transaction.
