What does the company do well? Digium's Switch box platform is based on Asterisk which is the most widely used PBX platform out there, so the platform is stable and well supported. Because Digium manages the Asterisk code base as well their support team can provide a better experience than any other open-source Asterisk platform out there. That are also able to price the Switchvox platform very competitively. Digium is always innovating and assume new features to the platform.
What does the company not do well? Switchvox is still a comparatively young platform when compared with Cisco or Shoretel, which means that sometimes features out capabilities that have existed on those other platforms are either not available on Switchvox, it the feature is still new and not fully developed.
What do you wish you had known about the company before using? We had been using Asterisk based systems for several years before switching to Switchvox so we were already very familiar with the ecosystem. The thing that was most surprising was the low level of maturity in their PBX Server hardware. The telephony cards had been around forever and are rock solid, but the server chassis was missing redundancy. That has since been addressed, but we struggled early on with that.
