What does BambooHR do well?
BambooHR makes managing employees very easy. You can see all key details about anyone on your team such as their contact info, title, job history (past positions + salary), any uploads such as a DiSC profile or self-assessments, how much PTO they have (past requests + future requests), trainings, employee reviews, and more. It's also easy to communicate with potential hires instead of using your direct work email. The user interface is easy to understand and navigate, and they have a mobile app to make viewing easy if you're not at your computer. It's just a very simple-to-use program that makes managing employees very easy, especially if you're coming in to an older/established team as a new manager.
What does BambooHR not do well?
I personally don't like that if someone isn't on your team, you can't see anything on their profile such as emergency contact info, or job history (even without salary info). A simple profile would be nice to have, but I wouldn't say it's a big mark against BambooHR.
What do you wish you had known about BambooHR before using?
I can't really think of something I wish I had known about BambooHR before using. It serves our business needs well, and I like that it works exactly as I need it to.
Have you used a competitor to BambooHR? If so, how does it compare?
The closest comparison I can make is to is Greenhouse Software, but only from a recruiting standpoint. As Greenhouse is meant for recruiting and not HR, I can only compare it from that aspect. Greenhouse was a bit more complicated to navigate, especially if you're hiring for multiple roles. BambooHR's interface is more intuitive (for me, at least), but both do exactly what I need from a recruiting standpoint. I just like that BambooHR has the HR component tied into it so it just flows from recruiting to management/HR.
